    EMCIS Themes and Tracks

    T
he Global Community of Management Information Systems, in conjunction with the Department of Information Systems & Computing (Brunel University) and EnCKompass invites you to submit your leading research papers to the European and Mediterranean Conference on Information Systems. Publications are expected to be of interdisciplinary relevance.  EMCIS 2004 will provide a forum to exchange ideas in the fast moving area of Management Information Systems around the world, but with a focus on Europe and the Mediterranean. The conference organisers seek to attract strong academic contributions that will be peer-reviewed by a panel of experts. The conference theme will be addressed from three overlapping perspectives; Organisational, Technical and Human.

    Organisational Issues in MIS:
Information systems require considerable contribution, commitment and care to achieve their full potential. Effective and efficient technological transfer often requires constant alteration of working practices and organisational change far beyond initial expectation. Participants are encouraged to present their research on theories, concepts, methodologies and tools from both management and IS to identify cases of success, or impact of Management Information Systems on organisations and markets.  Such themes include but are not limited:

    • Strategic Information Systems Planning and Alignment
    • Global Issues Surrounding Management Information Systems Adoption
    • Management Information Systems Strategy
    • Electronic Procurement and Supply Chain Management
    • Electronic Business Models and Web Services
    • Decision Support Systems and Business Intelligence
    • Information Systems Evaluation and Balanced Scorecards
    • Information Systems Success Factors
    • Organisational Change and Behavioural Research

    Technical Issues in MIS:

Researchers are invited to critique prevailing technologies and discuss their application theories of organisations and organisational change development and transformation, and the role of Information Systems Development (ISD) within them.  Such themes include but are not limited:

    • IT Infrastructure and Convergence
    • Enterprise-Wide Technologies (ERP, EAI, CRM, SCM)
    • Web Services and Interoperable Technologies
    • Innovation in Information Systems Analysis, Design, Development and Maintenance
    • Data Quality and Integration, Mining And Management
    • Mobile Management Information Systems
    • Distributed Networking Systems
    • IT Security
    • Customisation versus component-based software development and software reuse
    • Patient record systems and the use of IS in Healthcare
    • Innovative use of Informatics (i.e. Telemedicine)

    Human Issues in MIS:
The vision for an internet-worked information society and 24x7X365 commerce has sprung a plethora of attempts for electronic service delivery systems that give direct access to information, services and knowledge; Therefore increasing the associated complexity both for implementation and integration of these components. Management information systems are developed within organisational environments where there are heavily influenced by a plethora of socio-technical factors that are often indirect in nature. EMCIS welcomes multi-disciplinary research on MIS that contributes to the greater understanding of the human domain. Such themes include but are not limited:

    • Electronic Government and Governance
    • Digital Divide and ICT Access
    • Philosophical Aspects of ICT
    • Teleworking: Present And Future Directions
    • Electronic and Participatory Learning
    • Human Computer Interaction
    • Virtual Communities and Collaboration
    • Issues of Trust and Privacy
    • Issues of Modernity in Information Systems and Globalisation
    • Social Theory in Information Systems
    • Critical information systems theoretical, methodological and empirical challenges

Research case-studies and lessons from practice are encouraged in all three tracks.
